O&O Defrag V6 offers you a completely new interface, making it easier than ever to defragment your volumes. For example, we’ve integrated an XP-style task pane into the GUI, which lists for you the most important functions and explains them with useful tips. This task pane can also be used even with Windows NT4, so that the GUI is the same, whichever version of Windows you use.

Microsoft Management Console vs. Application

O&O Defrag can be used as a Snap-In for the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) or as an independent application without the MMC.

The advantage of using the MMC is the framework provided by Microsoft, which allows you to integrate numerous system tools into the same operating environment. For example, the Computer Management used in Windows XP/2003 and Windows 2000 is a summary of the most important system tools – these used to be independent administration tools.

From Windows 2000, the MMC was integrated into the operating system. It can be installed free of charge if you’re running Windows NT4. If you don’t want to install the MMC, you can simply use O&O Defrag as an independent or ôcontainerö application. You will see the same user interface (GUI) as if you were using the MMC, and a detailed menu structure is also included.

The container application is also recommended if you only want to use O&O on your computer from time to time. However, the network functionality in O&O Defrag Server Edition can only be used within the MMC.
